Rotamex-5
Implementation of the classic Rota-rod, designed to measure motor coordination, balance, and endurance in small animals.
Product Description
The Rotamex-5 is an advanced version of the classic rotating rod used for testing motor coordination, balance, and endurance in animal subjects. Ideal for neurological, pharmacological, and behavioral studies, it allows for the simultaneous testing of up to four animals, evaluating their ability to maintain balance on a rotating spindle. This system provides researchers with precise data on motor performance, making it an essential tool for assessing the effects of drugs, injuries, or diseases on motor skills.
Features and Benefits
Speed Control and Monitoring
The Rotamex-5 allows users to control the speed and acceleration of the rotating rod with precision. It offers both accelerating and constant speed modes, enabling flexibility in designing experiments for different animals and conditions. The system can also be programmed to change speed at specific intervals or even reverse rotation, allowing custom protocols to meet a wide range of research needs.
Photocell Detection for Accurate Analysis
Each lane is equipped with infrared photocells that detect when an animal falls from the rod. This ensures reliable and automatic recording of fall time and running duration. The photocell setup is designed to capture not only falls but also looping behavior, providing detailed performance data without manual observation.
Standalone and Automated Data Collection
The system records critical performance data, including time on the rod, spindle speed at the time of fall, and distance traveled. Data is automatically saved and can be exported in CSV format for further analysis from the software. In standalone mode, the Rotamex-5 operates without the need for a connected PC, storing data directly on the system for easy retrieval.
